Charcoal polished poured concrete driveway leading to a single-car garage on a red brick ranch home, golden hour

    Poured Concrete Driveway

A poured concrete driveway is the simplest way to get a clean, low-maintenance surface from street to garage. No individual units to shift, no gravel to redistribute — one continuous pour with control joints to manage cracking.

Finish choice changes the character significantly. A raw or broom-finish in light grey reads as traditional and practical. Near-black or charcoal with a low polish looks architectural — works well against render, fibre cement, or board-formed concrete facades.

Control joints are cut every 8–10 feet on a standard residential driveway and are part of the look, not a flaw. On a polished charcoal surface they read as intentional lines in the plane.

Expect to pay $6–14/sq ft for a standard poured concrete driveway. Polished finishes and coloured integral pigment push toward the upper end. A plain grey broom finish sits at the lower range.
